LUCIE SILVAS: THE SONGSMITH
Age: 24
From: England
The Music: After finding success with songs she had penned for other artists, the end of 2004 saw Lucie Silvas release her own debut album titled Breathe In. The 12-track disc features songs written, of course, by Lucie and is described as an album full of love, belief and friendship - the eternal truths in life. Her versatile voice reflects the influences of her childhood which ranged from gospel music to artists like Stevie Wonder, Nat King Cole and The Carpenters.

FYI: Lucie Silvas began playing the piano at age five and wrote her very first love song aged ten. At a holiday talent show in Tahiti on her 11th birthday she performed Whitney Houston’s The Greatest Love Of All and when she’d finished, someone in the audience offered her a record contract! From then on, Lucie’s choice of career was set.
Back in England, Lucie studied music all through college. Fast forward a few years later and she was on tour as a backing singer. One connection led to another and soon she was performing with ex-Take That member Gary Barlow. Being a fellow singer/songwriter Lucie played him one of her songs and since then has never looked back. Word had got around that she was a songwriter to be reckoned with and soon she was writing for artists like S Club 7’s Rachel Stevens, Gareth Gates, Liberty X, various American Idols, and other top pop stars. The songwriter in her was very proud. She says, “Going to a club and hearing the whole place chanting along to words you’ve written, melodies you’ve invented. That’s a fantastic feeling.”
But the singer in her was not to be forgotten. Hanging around London’s live music scene encouraged her to get back to her own songs. And the acclaim just kept coming. With praise from Coldplay’s Chris Martin and a live duet with Lionel Richie it looks like both Lucie the singer and songwriter are going places.
