If you haven’t heard of this Australian band before, we suggest you stop a moment and hop on for the ride. These guys know how to rock and pack a serious melodic punch. That is why The Record is happy to bring you an exclusive conversation with lead singer/guitarist Jason Singh. Read on as he tells us about the band’s cool new video, their hidden talents and his wish to meet the ultimate Indian icon.
The Record: To someone who has never heard your music ~ what would you say Taxiride is all about?
Jason: I’d say Taxiride has no boundaries as far as the type of music we can play and the music we like. We love doing gigs ~ that’s our passion, to play our music to people. So far we haven’t disappointed people. If you like us and want to stick with us, you’ll get something different every time we make a record. And hopefully you enjoy it as much as we do!
TR: You invited people with weird talents to participate in your Oh Yeah video. Meet anyone interesting?
Jason: We got some scary people! [Laughs] The cool ones that we got were fire breathers, cheerleaders, break-dancers, martial artists, people that could touch their nose with their tongue! It worked out well, it was the most fun video we ever made I think.
TR: What weird talents does the band have?
Jason: Hmmm…we can play music quite okay! [Laughs] I’m not a bad cook. That was what I did before I started music. I used to work as an Indian chef actually with my parents ~ they are both chefs as well. They taught me how to make a good dal and we used to cook a lot of Indian food!
TR: Cool! Coming back to the album, tell us about the conspiracy theory theme running through your lyrics.
Jason: It was more of a reflection on today’s society; how people jump to conclusions without getting all the information before they make a decision on what they want to do. Conspiracy theory was just a way to say that a lot of the lyrics, on first listen you might think that they seem to be about a certain thing, but if you dig deeper it would ask a question. What you seem to believe may not necessarily be true.
TR: What else is planned for this album?
Jason: We are off to Perth next and we’re traveling around Australia for a little while but then our focus after the New Year is to try and come to India and see what we can do over there. We are so excited to come there! I mean it’s been a dream for my whole life to come to India. I never dreamed that music would bring me there but I’m glad I can come over and show you what we do as a band.
