ROCK STAR DIARIES
This Delhi-based band formed in July 2000 and went through a series of ideas before settling on a final band name. Heaven’s Melons, Temperheads, Lemon Grass, Pentabra, DemiGodz were all in the running until someone came up with the intriguing phrase Them Clones. The name was perfect because it reflected the general attitude of the band and was adapted from one of their favourite tracks, Them Bones by Alice In Chains.
That settled, the guys went on to more important things like making good music. They started out playing covers of songs from bands like Junoon, Aerosmith, Rage Against the Machine, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Dave Matthews Band, Counting Crows, U2, Del Amitri, Limp Bizkit, Incubus, Korn and more. As their popularity grew at live gigs, the band also began working on some originals and soon went from cloning other people’s tracks to singing their own to enthusiastic audiences.
They only realised how enthusiastic the response was when they made their original tracks available in the form of the Them Clones EP. The EP sold over 7000 copies online and is still moving. The plan of action for 2005 is to work on more original tracks and finally have a proper album ready for release. With production interest from none other than super composers Vishal and Shekhar, it’s safe to say that this looks to be a good year for Clones originals.
