Daddy Yankee
Introducing:

It doesn’t matter that you don’t know the words, it doesn’t matter that you probably most definitely can’t move like the slinky girls in the video – when Daddy Yankee’s Gasolina comes on, everyone wants to be on the dance floor.

Like most summer anthems in recent times, this one came seemingly out of nowhere. The addictive blend of reggae, salsa, hip hop, dancehall and a shot of pure energy that is Gasolina had everyone reaching for a piece of the reggaeton pie. It even got diva Jennifer Lopez’ attention and she has since decided to co-produce a film titled, simply, Reggaeton.

Yankee in the meantime is moving ahead at full speed, with a jam-packed schedule and a laundry list of projects already planned for the future. He’s worked nearly fifteen years in the Latin music scene to get here and you can bet he’s not running out of steam anytime soon.

Highlights:

- Daddy Yankee is already a huge star in US and Latin America. Barrio Fino, his fifth album, has sold over 1.6 million units and been riding high on Billboard's Latin chart for most of the year.

- He is known on the reggaeton music scene as the King of Improvization.

- Though Gasolina is his most popular song Daddy Yankee is not a brand new artist. He has recorded over 130 tracks in as many as 70 reggaetón albums.

- His first two albums El Cartel and El Cartel II both reached Platinum record status.

He then turned to music.

What is reggaeton?
Reggaetón is a musical genre that emerged in Puerto Rico during the early ‘90s from the fusion between classic salsa, the traditional Puerto Rican bomba, the urban rhythm of hip-hop and the vibe of reggae.
