Juanes
Introducing:
Imagine the smoldering sexuality of Antonio Banderas with the socially conscious musings of Bruce Springsteen and Bono – that’s Juanes in a nutshell. Admittedly it’s a rather superficial nutshell, since there is so much more to this Colombian superstar than a one-line description could do justice to.

The 33-year-old guitarist/singer/songwriter is hailed as the single most important figure on the Latin music scene today. Is it his movie-star good looks, his blazing stage presence, his insightful lyrics often reflecting the violence of his native Colombia’s continued conflict, or all of that and more?

When his award-winning new album hits Indian shores in a few months, you’ll get a chance to find out.

Highlights:

- Juanes has won an impressive twelve Latin Grammy awards!

- His breakthrough second album Un Dia Normal (A Normal Day) was the #1 Spanish-language album of 2003 in both sales and airplay. It also holds the record for the longest Top-10 chart run of any Latin album in history.

- The album’s success led Juanes to top six separate Billboard Year-end Latin charts, including #1 Album, #1 Singles Artist, and #1 Songwriter.

- Un Dia Normal spent two years (104 weeks) on the chart and produced five hit singles. Juanes swept the 2003 Latin Grammys winning all five awards for which he was nominated: Album Of The Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rock Solo Album and Best Rock Song.

- The album also featured a duet with Grammy-winner Nelly Furtado on a song called Fotografía (Photograph), a duet about isolation between lovers.

The Record FAQ:

What is Juanes’ background?
He was born Juan Esteban Aristizábal Vásquez, in 1972 in Medellín, Colombia. Juanes learned to play guitar at age 8 from his father and brother. Eventually he combined his names ''Juan'' and ''Esteban'' to create his performing name -- Juanes (pronounced: who-ah-ness).
His first steps into the music business came in the form of a rock band he formed called Ekhymosis. But the real success came with the release of his politically-minded solo debut Fíjate Bien (Take A Good Look) in 2000. The debut album earned him three Latin Grammys: Best New Artist, Best Rock Solo Vocal Album and Best Rock Song.
