They’ve played at Buckingham Palace, on the main stage at Glastonbury, and to millions around the world at Live 8 – all this before the release of their second album!
They are an Anglo-Swedish band from England who made waves on the strength of their demos.
Razorlight was formed in England the summer of 2002 by 22-year-old singer/songwriter Johnny Borrell. Their sound is often described as acoustic post punk-rock music. Their first recordings were made by their manager on a video camera. This proved enough to get the attention of record labels to front some cash, so by October Razorlight were recording their demos at Hackney's Toerag Studios. So impressed was London indie rock radio station X-FM's John Kennedy that he took the unusual step of playing the demos on his show.
Their debut album went straight to #1.
In the summer of 2004, Razorlight’s debut album Up All Night entered the UK album chart at #1. That same week, Razorlight made the rounds of three British institutions in a row - a performance on Top Of The Pops, going on to play in front of Buckingham Palace and then being rushed across country to the prestigious Glastonbury festival. Although reviewers had mixed opinions about the band, the fans couldn’t get enough of the music. Increasing demand led to the band playing a series of sold-out extra shows. In 2006, two years to the day since the release of their debut album and a million record sales later, Razorlight release their self-titled second album, produced by legendary Beatles, Sex Pistols, Pink Floyd and U2 producer Chris Thomas.
