The Band:Nitish (vocals, lyrics), Rajesh (lead guitars), Vijay (bass guitars), Sanket (tabla) and Aggie (Drummer).
Debut track: Gulfam
Album: Gulfam
Sound:Sufi folk, rock and a generous use of Indian instruments. Each song deals with an aspect of the everyday life of the common man, the choices that people make and the perceptions of society.
Background Check:'The band was formed four years back. At that time we were a regular rock band and we decided to take our career seriously. Some of the members were well off, or didn't have the time, so they left. The three of us made demos and sent them to other places.'
Big Break:Universal liked the music and called them in. Four years of struggle paid off and they claim to have a very comfortable relationship with the label that has not interfered in the making of their music.
Quotes:
'Jinki music acchi nahi, unke liye kam kapde wali ladkiyan dikhakar gaana bechne ka tareeka ho gaya hai. Our music does not need that crutch.' - Rajesh
'We stopped demanding things, stopped dreaming of things. A lot of sacrifices. Financially each of us is not strong. We are from lower middle class families. Still, we persisted. We never had money to sit in a hotel and have food, let alone have dates. We only concentrated on music.' - Nitish
'We collected money every way we could. We put our foot down and said music is what we will do. We borrowed from different sources and took a risk. After paying bills for lakhs, what if we were to get rejected? But we had the confidence, we never thought it would not happen.' - Nitish
