Artist: Raghav Sachar
Debut track: Cultural Amalgamation
Album: For the First Time
Sound: Three originals, one interpretation of Sting's A Thousand Years (re-titled Looking Back) and four adaptations of some popular Hindi film songs.
Background Check: A 22 year-old kid who plays 17 instruments!! Composes, programs, arranges and even sings. At a time where being potty trained is considered an achievement, Raghav started playing the harmonica at the age of four. After forming a band with friends where he was the self-confessed busiest guy on stage, he formalized his education in music at the Monash University in Australia. He has toured and performed since then and then he met producer Atul Churamani…
Big Break: 'It was a very chance thing. I had come to India to record for Shubha Mudgal's album and Atul Churamani saw me and offered me a platform. I had been touring with Monash University around Australia and South East Asia then. I used some of the old stuff, like Melange which I had four-five different versions of, ready. '
Influences: Incognito, Charlie Parker, Santana, Sting, RD Burman, Rahman
Quotes:
'My family was really supportive. I did specialize though in composition and performance, and saxophone being my primary instrument that I can express myself the best on. I think my forte lies in playing eight to ten instruments very well.'
'I can render a melody line in ten twelve different ways. Basically made a formula out of this composition and hooklines. I would go for everything original, but the problem is that I am introducing a totally new genre with different instruments. If everything is different, then no one will connect with it. So what I'm trying to do here is make my own compositions here and connect them with hooklines.' explanation of why his songs cannot be considered remixes
