Artist: Sachin
Debut track: Jaan
Album: Sachin
Sound:A concoction of Ballads, two tracks - Latino and Calypso-based, some Punjabi flavor
Background Check:Born and brought up in Meerut, Sachin started when he was in class three when he sang for the first time. From then onwards life was one music competition after another till one day my father put an end to it. Singing was no career, he said. So Sachin came to Mumbai for a vacation for a month and half, and ended up shifting base here permanently.
The big change came when one fine day his girlfriend walked out on him saying that she did not love him anymore. 'I had given three years of my life to the relationship and suddenly she was not there in my life. I had no friends to share my feelings with. The pain would just not go away.'
That is quite a mushy story! 'They say unrequited love makes you a poet. That is what happened to me - the musician in me surfaced again. I wrote songs, played started venting out my emotions through pen and instruments. And the first song I ever wrote and composed was Jaan which is the title track of the album,' he says.
Big Break: A Times music artist, he was picked up by them after recording his album at his own expense. The video has been shot at nine different locations in Ladakh, and check this he has invested his own money in the video. The label was not about to invest that kind of money, and since visibility is a huge factor for any artist Sachin decided to place his faith in his own music. Inspite of the video being a personal expense, he hasn't been tight fisted, which is quite commendable.
Influences: RD Burman
Quotes:
'Just that where I come (Meerut) from there aren't too many open minded people. People can't think beyond government jobs. Very famous for riots. Neighbours always know what sabzi and daal you have cooked. So when I came to Bombay I decided to stay back. I have sold everything from cars to rented out sound systems after coming to Mumbai.'
'There will always be good and bad music. It is just the people who finalise the product that will reach the market… I don't know how smart they are. Nowadays anyone who has money becomes a producer, even if he has no sense of music.'
